About University of Rome Tor Vergata
Established in 1982, the University of Rome Tor Vergata (Università degli Studi di Roma "Tor Vergata") was created partly to relieve pressure on the older and much larger Sapienza University and to provide a more modern, spacious academic environment. Located in the southeastern part of Rome, its campus was designed with expansion in mind and features contemporary architecture spread across a large, green area, differing markedly from the historic city-center campuses typical of older Italian universities. Tor Vergata offers programs across six macro-areas including economics, engineering, law, medicine and surgery, humanities, and mathematical/physical/natural sciences. It has built a strong reputation particularly in scientific and technical fields, including physics, engineering, and biomedical sciences, and hosts significant research infrastructure, including collaborations with national research agencies and involvement in major international scientific projects (it is home to, or closely associated with, some particle physics and space research initiatives). The university has increasingly focused on internationalization, research output, and partnerships with industry, positioning itself as a research-intensive alternative among Rome's public universities.

Student Life at University of Rome Tor Vergata
Student Life

Modeled loosely on Anglo-Saxon-style campuses, Tor Vergata offers a more spread-out, self-contained "campus" feel than Rome's older universities which is unusual for Italy. It has a strong sports culture (large athletic facilities, a natural home for sport given its size), on-site student housing (Campus X), and hosts institutions like the Italian Space Agency and Tor Vergata University Hospital. The vibe is quieter and more suburban than central Rome, appealing to students who want more space and modern facilities. |
